Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry on Wednesday voiced regret over some western stances towards Qatar actions in the region and their negative impact on the stability of the Middle East region.
Shoukry's remarks came during his meeting with head of the French Senate Committee of Foreign Affairs, Defense and Armed Forces Christian Cambon, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said in a press statement.
Abu Zeid said Shoukry was keen to greet the French lawmaker on assuming the presidency of the French parliamentary committee. He said Egypt is looking forward to continuing distinguished relations between the two countries' parliaments.
The Egyptian top diplomat also extended thanks to the French side over their backing of Egypt over the past few years, noting that Egypt is deeply interested in the French representation at the European parliament and the support Cairo could have in European foundations, the spokesman said.
The meeting took up Egypt's assessment of the Libyan deal signed late Tuesday between the two main rival leaders who have agreed to a ceasefire and hold elections early next year after a meeting in Paris hosted by the French President Emmanuel Macron.
