Cairo - Egypt Today
Grand Mufti Shawqi Allam said on Thursday that the initiative launched by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to renew religious discourse has received wide international attention especially by circles concerned with combating extremist ideology.
Addressing the Arab-Chinese anti-extremism summit held in the Chinese city of Chengdu, Allam asserted that President Sisi fully supports Egypt-based religious institutions in their endeavors to adopt moderate speech.
Meanwhile, the Mufti said that Darul Iftaa is working on spreading moderation and combating fatwas issued abroad by the unspecialized, in line with the strategy it has been adopting for years, Darul Iftaa said in a released statement.
Darul Iftaa is in contact with Muslim communities across the world, Allam said, adding that the religious institution will hold an international conference, dubbed “Fatwa’s role in stabilizing societies”, in mid-October.
