Director of Ahwaz Studies Center and Rights Activist at the Organization of Human Rights Jaber Ahmad called on the United Nations to intervene to stop ethnic cleansing committed by Iran against the Ahwazi people.
In his speech at the 8th UN Forum on Minority Issues which was held today at the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), Jaber Ahmad stressed that the police and judicial system in Iran are systematically violating the rights of minorities in Iran, particularly the activists who demand national rights of non-Persian indigenous minorities - who represent about half of Iran's population.
The problem facing national and religious minorities under the Iranian regime is the lack of independence of the judicial system which is controlled by the security services, Jaber Ahmad said.
He confirmed that the judiciary in Iran colludes with the police and security services to launch crackdown campaigns against Ahwazi Arab minority living in southwestern Iran.
We demand the Forum to pay attention to minority issues as well as discriminatory practices of the police and judiciary against minorities, Jaber Ahmad concluded.
