Saudi Foreign Minister Adel Al-Jubeir and his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov stressed the growing importance of strategic dialogue between Russia and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).
During a joint press conference in Moscow after talks between the two countries today, the two sides confirmed the desire of the leaderships of the two countries to strengthen bilateral relations in various fields.
The Saudi foreign minister said that the they discussed the importance of finding a solution to the Yemeni crisis based on the UN Security Council resolution 2216, the outcomes of the Yemeni national dialogue and the Gulf initiative.
They also discussed the peace process in the Middle East and the importance of reaching a comprehensive and just solution based on UN resolutions and the Arab peace initiative, he noted .
On the situation in Syria, al-Jubeir pointed out that the talks stressed the importance of preserving the unity of this country and finding a political solution to remove Syria from the crisis it is experiencing on the basis of the Geneva Declaration and UN Security Council Resolution 2254.
For his part, the Russian Foreign Minister said that the two countries have a joint assessment of the threat of international terrorism, including the ISIS which directly threatens the security of the region, stressing that both Russia and Saudi Arabia have great potential for positive impact on international efforts to find a solution the situation in Syria, Yemen and other crises.
Lavrov also stressed that the two countries have common positions on the need to break the deadlock and as soon as possible in the Israeli-Palestinian settlement based on the two-state solution within the framework of international legitimacy and the Arab peace initiative put forward by the Kingdom.
The two sides discussed relations between the two countries and means of boosting them, especially in the economic and trade fields, as well as coordination of positions on regional and international issues and issues of common interest, and the two countries' efforts in combating terrorism and extremism.
