German Chancellor Angela Merkel

German Deputy Foreign Minister Philipp Ackermann lauded his country's relations with Egypt, saying that such good relations will be maintained in the same positive way after the parliamentary elections.

Germany has unique economic, cultural and political relations with Egypt, Ackermann noted.

Ackermann held a meeting on Monday with Egypt's top students of Thanaweya Amma at the German foreign ministry in Berlin.

On the sideline of the meeting, Ackermann told MENA that his meeting with the Egyptian students was positive and warm and viewpoints have been exchanged.

Ackermann said that Egyptian students are intelligent, positive and have a good approach of dialogue.

During the meeting, we discussed German parliamentary elections while the nature of the democratic system in Germany have been explained to them, Ackermann stated.

As well, we tackled issues related to the Middle East region and challenges it faces, he said adding that their viewpoints were very useful for me especially regarding issues related to the Middle East.

Cultural and scientific relations with Egypt are very good and Egypt is an important economic partner in the Middle East, he pointed out.

After German Chancellor Angela Merkel has been re-elected for a fourth term in federal elections and her conservative CDU/CSU alliance has won 32.5% of the vote, she will be able to come to an agreement with the green party and Free Democratic Party because all political parties hope to participate in the government, he added.

He expected her to be able to build a coalition bringing both parties together.
