Egypt rejected a bill introduced by a member of the US House of Representatives on renovating Coptic churches in Egypt, the spokesman for the Foreign Ministry said Wednesday.

The bill demands the US Secretary of State to follow up the Egyptian government’s pledges on renovating the churches which it promised to repair after 2013 events.

The spokesman denounced such a behavior, asserting that Egyptian authorities could not be held accountable before any foreign legislative or executive body.

He also deplored the fallacies included as part of such a bill, noting that Egypt had never witnessed a sectarian violence, but terrorist acts, committed by an outlawed group.

The Ministry reaffirmed that the measures taken by Egyptian executive authorities had been always subject to evaluation and accountability before eligible institutions, specified by the Egyptian Constitution.

The Egyptian Embassy in Washington was contacted to protest against such a move, the spokesman concluded.
