The Egyptian Council of Churches condemned on Thursday a bill introduced by a member of the US House of Representatives on renovating churches in Egypt.
The bill, titled the Coptic Churches Accountability Act and introduced by Representative David Trott, directs the US Secretary of State to submit an annual report to Congress regarding "efforts to restore or repair Christian property in the Arab Republic of Egypt that was burned, damaged, or otherwise destroyed during the sectarian violence in August 2013," according to the Congress website.
In a statement Thursday, the Egyptian Council of Churches said President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has fulfilled his pledges to renovate churches by the end of 2016.
Egypt's national unity is "above all considerations", it noted.
