Yangon - Arab Today
Myanmar's nominated new peace mediator Dr. Tin Myo Win has pledged all-inclusive efforts to bring about eternal peace in the country, official report said Sunday.
Tin Myo Win, who is also personal doctor of State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi, made the remarks at a ceremony in Yangon in his honor for his coming role as the peace mediator.
He said he would work to the satisfaction of all stake holders including the government, the military , ethnic leaders, armed groups and the people.
He stressed the importance of peace to bring social and economic development to people in conflict-stricken areas, calling on the stakeholders to work together with the government to achieve stability.
Participants in the Joint Monitoring Committee (JMC) for Ceasefire on Wednesday proposed to rename the Myanmar Peace Center (MPC), which has been working for the country's peace process, as National Reconciliation and Peace Center (NRPC) and appoint Dr. Tin Myo Win as new peace mediator.
The JMC meeting, which began on Tuesday and chaired by Lt-Gen Yapye from the military, was the first held after the new government took office on April 1.
During the meeting, Aung San Suu Kyi called for continuing the unfinished peace conference already initiated by the previous government, saying that work for bringing those deemed appropriate for inclusion in the ceasefire efforts should also be done simultaneously.
