Sharjah Ruler

 H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah opened on Wednesday the 7th Sharjah Calligraphy Biennial in a ceremony held at the Heart of Sharjah.

The Calligraphy Biennial is being organised by the Sharjah Department of Culture and Information and will run until 2th June. Over 206 calligraphy artists are taking part with a total of 683 works, reflecting the vibrant elements of the Arabic calligraphy.

Sheikh Sultan toured the display area of works by renowned calligraphers. He stopped at the stand of the Emirates Society for Arabic Calligraphy and was briefed about the works by the young Emirati talents.

Sheikh Sultan also honoured prominent calligraphers from Sudan, Syria and Tunisia. This was followed by prize distribution ceremony as he crowned winners of this year biennial prizes, including Omid Rabbani and Ahmed Bouran from Iran, Mamdouh Abdul Aleem from Egypt, Mahfouz Mamnoun from Iraq, Abdullah Aqar from France and Nouria Mas from Spain.

The biennial will feature 126 workshops, 11 films and more than 129 other activities focusing on the beauty of the Arabic calligraphy.
