His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and Angela Merkel, Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, discussed ways to promote bilateral relations, apart from regional and international issues.
Sheikh Mohamed welcomed Merkel to the UAE, noting that the visit came within the framework of strong friendship between the peoples of both countries. During a meeting attended by Sheikh Tahnoun bin Zayed Al Nahyan, national security adviser, they reviewed bilateral relations covering political, economic and development areas. They addressed developments in Syria, Libya and Yemen, and the efforts of both countries to combat extremist and terrorist groups.
Sheikh Mohamed briefed Merkel about the UAE's vision of a safe, stable and prosperous region.
Sheikh Mohamed stressed that the UAE, led by the President, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, attaches great importance to its relationship with Germany and "is keen to develop and promote this relationship in all areas in the best interest of both countries and their people, while supporting efforts to establish an efficient UAE-German stance to address regional and international instability".
