President Yoweri Museveni

Uganda's main opposition party has announced countrywide protests ahead of the swearing in ceremony of the incumbent President Yoweri Museveni on May 12.

Nathan Nandala Mafabi, Forum for Democratic Change Secretary General said they plan to hold the demonstrations on May 5 demanding an international audit of the Feb. 18 presidential polls which Museveni won.

"We are not satisfied with the poll results. We call upon all Ugandans to turn up for the demonstration in order to free our vote," Mafabi said on Tuesday.

The opposition refuted the poll results and went to the Supreme Court but the Court said that although there were anomalies, the pitfalls did not substantially affect the result of the election.

Police has previously foiled opposition protests arguing that they are intended to cause chaos in the country. Police has not yet reacted to the notice given by the opposition about the impeding demonstration.
