A number of Jewish settlers had performed Talmudic rituals at the gates of Al Aqsa Mosque, eyewitnesses said on Sunday.
This came after Israeli authorities prevented Muslims from entering the mosque.
Al Aqsa Mosque compound is still closed for the third day running by the Israeli forces due to clashes that erupted Friday morning which left three Palestinian youths and two Israeli policemen killed.
Following the shooting, the Israeli police declared that Friday's prayers would not be held at the holy site. The authorities also prevented any Palestinian official or Muslim worshipers from entering the mosque.
