The emergency session of the Muslim Council of Elders began here on Monday under Grand Imam of Al Azhar Sheikh Ahmed Al Tayyeb to discuss ways to end Israeli violations of Al Aqsa Mosque, the provocative measures taken by occupation forces against worshipers and the brutal attacks on the sanctity of Al Quds.
The meeting comes upon the invitation of Sheikh Tayyeb and the president of the council in light of the important role played by the council in achieving and spreading peace among the peoples and highlighting the role of scholars in preserving the Islamic holy places.
Secretary General of the council Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi said, in statements ahead of the meeting, that the session comes as part of the council's recognition of its important role in defending the issues of the Arab and Muslim nations as well as reiterating the religious and spiritual status of Al Aqsa Mosque and Al Quds.
