Tensions continued to rise in Jerusalem on Friday after the Israeli occupation government decided late Thursday to keep in place controversial security arrangements at al Aqsa Mosque compound in the city, the Washington Post newspaper reported.
Israeli police were gearing up for any disturbances and possible violence and military units were on standby.
Entry to the holy site will be restricted to women and men over 50, police said.
The heightened security measures were put in place Sunday after clashes last Friday between Israeli police and Palestinian youths. Three Palestinian youths were killed during the clashes.
