Border guards have detected and destroyed 40 tunnels along the border line in North Sinai from January till June, an army’s spokesman announced.
Several infiltration and illegal immigration attempts by 3,000 persons of different nationalities were also foiled by the border guards, the military spokesman said in a statement on Wednesday.
This comes as part of the Armed Forces’ efforts to eradicate Takfiri and criminal elements and cut off all supply routes, he added.
The military operations resulted in seizing 6,000 kilograms of cannabis, 45,000 kilograms of bhang (local marijuana), 100 kilograms of heroin, 50 kilograms of opium and 15 millions of narcotic pills, he asserted.
Also, the border guards have confiscated more than 1400 weapons and huge amount of ammunition, he noted.
Large quantities of smuggled commodities were also seized in the operations, according to the military spokesman.
Several 4×4 vehicles and motorcycles were seized by the army troops, he added.
About 34 Egyptians, 67 Sudanese people were arrested while they were exploring for gold in desert, he stressed.
Some 1,400 sacks of sand mixed with gold, 25,000 kilograms of stones combined with gold and a number of artifacts were also confiscated during the operations, he clarified.
