Egyptians carry their luggage as they return from Libya through the Salloum border crossing, in

As many as 440 Egyptians returned home from Libya via Salloum crossing over the past 24 hours, said Marsa Matrouh Security chief Mokhtar el Senbary.

Out of all the returnees, 352 Egyptians came back legally, while 88 returned illegally, he noted in statements on Monday.

Travel procedures for 979 people, including 336 Egyptians and 643 Libyans, have been finalized, Senbary added.

Libya has been witnessing a rising insurgency by different rebel groups and militias and an increasing use of weapons since the overthrow of slain Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011.
