Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit had talks on Tuesday with Director General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) José Graziano da Silva on means of enhancing bilateral cooperation with regard to food and water security issues.
The talks were held on the fringe of the 40th FAO conference, currently held in Rome, Abul Gheit's spokesman Mahmoud Afifi said.
Abul Gheit hailed the efforts exerted by FAO to offer food assistance to Arab countries suffering humanitarian crises and armed conflicts, especially in Syria, Libya, Yemen and Somalia.
Abul Gheit reviewed the AL's efforts in this domain, voicing hope that cooperation between the two organizations would be furthered in the coming period.
The FAO chief underlined the importance of the efforts being exerted by the AL in the Arab region, stressing support for the AL and Arab states to realize water and food security.
