A man's doubt on his paternity has landed a woman in deep trouble in Dubai. The rare case of domestic violence came to light when the penniless woman approached the Dubai Police seeking help to deliver her child.
Fatima Al Kindi, head of social support department at the Dubai Police, said that the human rights department solved the problem of thent Arab woman whose husband of another Arab nationality disappeared after a marriage that lasted only for two months. He deserted her when she got pregnant saying before their marriage she was married to other man and has been living with him for several months. According to him, their marriage was a mistake and that he did not want to continue with the woman.
Al Kindi pregna added that the woman approached the police as she did not have the money to bear the cost of cesarian delivery and the human rights department summoned the man immediately. He wanted to cancel their marriage and was not ready to own her pregnancy. However, he agreed to meet her hospital expenses and provide money to the mother and baby after the human rights department convinced him he could prove his innocence later. The department told him that he could settle the dispute legally after the woman's delivery.
Al Kindi said that the human right department was in close contact with the competent authorities to solve the issue through legal or judicial channels.
She added that there has been an increase in marriages between different nationalities but some of them fail because of cultural differences.
Meanwhile, Dr Mohammed Abdullah Al Murr, director department of human rights at Dubai Police, said that the department of protection of women and children was founded to deal with humanitarian cases including family disputes and domestic violence cases.
