Former Lebanese prime minister Saad el Hariri congratulated former Egyptian foreign minister Ahmed Abul-Gheit on his appointment as secretary-general of the Arab League.
During a phone call on Friday, Hariri wished success for Abul-Gheit in his new post.
The Arab League approved on Thursday evening the appointment of Ahmed Abul-Gheit to become the eighth head of the organisation.
Abul-Gheit, 73, will succeed outgoing secretary-general Nabil El-Araby.
Abul-Gheit served as Egypt's foreign minister between 2004-2011.
