Geneva - Egypt Today
Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Yemen Martin Griffiths announced the conclusion of the Yemeni consultations in Geneva, expressing his frustration over the failure of the Houthis' delegation to participate in Geneva as well as the absence of any reply from the Houthi side despite the proposed alternatives and options for bringing them to Geneva.
Griffith thanked the Yemeni government for its involvement in the positive and fruitful consultations held over three days. The group of 19 sponsors of the Gulf Initiative and representatives of the five member countries of the Security Council participated in the meeting. The UN envoy announced that he will visit Sanaa in the coming days to continue consultations and arrangements for the next round.
Also, Yemen's Foreign Minister Khalid Al-Yamani affirmed that the Houthis always sought to foil the negotiations since 2015 alluding to the putsch militia’s irresponsibility, negligence and intransigence which undermine the efforts of the UN, legitimate government and the peace-sponsoring countries. This came at a press conference held yesterday in Geneva, at the end of the peace negotiations round.
Al-Yamani pointed out that the attendance of the legitimacy delegation reflected its seriousness and commitment to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people, calling on the UN Security Council and the international community to carry out their responsibilities.
