Cairo - Egypt Today
The Islamophobia Observatory warned of the repercussions of Israel's escalatory measures against unarmed Palestinians in the vicinity of Al Aqsa Mosque and East Jerusalem.
In a statement on Thursday, the observatory which is affiliated with Egypt's Darul Iftaa, called for halting violence and respecting religious sanctities and Palestinians' right to practice their religious rituals freely.
The observatory called on international organizations, especially the United Nations, to take swift measures to protect sanctities.
The observatory cautioned that maintaining Israel's haughtiness and escalation in Aqsa Mosque would hamstring efforts to realize just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution.
The observatory balked at Israeli settlers' storming of Aqsa under tight Israeli security
On Wednesday, thirty-six Israeli settlers stormed the courtyard of the holy Mosque of Al Aqsa amid tight security measures by Israeli police.
Escalation began at Aqsa on Friday following armed clashes at the mosque halls, which left two Israeli soldiers and three Arab youth dead.
Israel closed the mosque following the face-off and banned Friday prayers before it reopened it on Sunday after installing the electronic gates.
The measure raised hackles of the Palestinians, prompting a sit-in outside the holy shrine.
On Wednesday, there were calls for a day of rage in the Palestinian territories.
