Navy Commander Rear Admiral Osama Mouner Rabie said the Armed Forces command is keen on honing fighting skills of the navy and fitting it out with up-to-date equipment.
Delivering a speech on Thursday during a maritime drill codenamed "Zat el Sawari", he said the exercises are important to cope with modern maritime fighting methods.
Earlier in the day, President Abdel Fattah El Sisi commissioned the multi-mission frigate Tahya Misr (meaning Long Live Egypt) in preparation for joining the navy.
The frigate, that was handed over to Egypt by France, is able to respond to all types of air, marine, submarine or land threats.
The drills include several military exercises including securing the range of naval forces, transport lines and maritime movement.
