An Omani national has been arrested for allegedly robbing OMR20,000 from five houses in Saham, the ROP announced.

The Department of Criminal Investigation, led by the police of North Batinah, arrested a citizen on charges of theft from several houses in the province of Saham. 

Lt. Col. Kahlan bin Yahya Al-Amiri, Director of Criminal Investigations Department, said that the accused had entered five houses by breaking into them, and has stolen money and jewellery worth more than OMR20,000.

"The suspect would monitor houses where the lights weren't on, and entered only after making sure that they were free of their owners. The suspect would not leave any trace that would lead back to him," Al Amiri said.

During investigations, a driver was suspected of attempting to escape in his vehicle when he was stopped for questioning. The individual was arrested, and the tools used in the robberies were found inside the vehicle. The accused confessed to the theft cases, and that he sold the jewellery he had stolen.

Al Amiri called on citizens and residents to take care when leaving their homes, and make sure to close doors and windows in a secure manner. He suggested that the installation of cameras to houses helps to protect and prevent crimes and contributes to the detection of thieves.
