Social Solidarity Minister Ghada Waly asserted that one of the ministry’s main roles is to provide social justice for all Egyptians including handicapped people.
During her speech at the Egyptian Society of International Law, Waly added that this comes after a rise in the percentage of handicapped people in the Upper Egypt governorates due to the spread of the early and consanguineous marriage phenomena.
The ministry is holding a number of activities this month on the occasion of the United Nations' International Day of Persons with Disabilities in which the ministry aims to raise awareness concerning disabilities, she added.
Meanwhile, the minister said that the cabinet approved a bill raised by the ministry that guarantees handicapped people’s rights, adding that the bill is expected to be discussed in the parliament soon.
