UAE and Canadian officials concluded a three-day joint workshop on Friday in the Canadian capital to discuss sharing experiences in receiving and protecting refugees.

Topics on the programme, prepared by the Canadian Government in co-ordination with specialised agencies involved in refugee issues, included the role of the International Organisation for Migration in rehabilitating refugees, plans and mechanisms for receiving and integrating refugees into society, the role of non-government organisations in providing education, healthcare, jobs, as well as Canada's cooperation with neighbouring countries in facilitating efforts to receive refugees.

Participating officials from the UAE included Deputy Director of International Security Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mohammed Ali Al Shamsi, and representatives of the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Higher Education, Ministry of Justice, Emirates Red Crescent and the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation.
