Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab said Monday that Egypt has taken strides at the economic, social, religious and cultural levels.
Egypt is moving toward a better future for Egyptians and the world, especially after the inauguration of the New Suez Canal, Mahlab said in a speech, which Cairo governor Galal el Saeid delivered on his behalf, at the first international conference of the Egyptian Iftaa House.
Egypt and the world are facing groups that adopt extremist ideologies antagonistic to the people, Mahlab said. Those, he added, are falsely claiming to be acting in line with the Islamic Sharia.
He stressed the importance of the conference to counter those irregular ideologies that affect the whole world and have nothing to do with moderate and tolerant Islam.
Mahlab also praised the role played by Al Azhar and the Iftaa House in protecting the moderate Egyptian identity and contributing to national stability and development.
