A group of extremist settlers early Monday stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque/Al-Haram al-Sharif compound, in the occupied holy city of Jerusalem, entering through the Bab Al-Magharebah gate.

The Islamic Awqaf Department in Jerusalem said in a statement that the settlers stormed the mosque under the protection of the Israeli police and performed their Talmudic rites.

The storm took place amid Israeli calls for mass daily storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque to mark the beginning of the Jewish Passover holiday, the statement added.
