Egyptian striker Ahmed Hossam London - Umar Farooq Former Egypt striker Ahmed Hossam, commonly known as Mido, has announced his retirement from football at the age of 30. The frontman, who had spells with the likes of Tottenham and Ajax, confirmed his decision on social media website Twitter. \"Today I announce that I\'m quitting football. I want to thank all those who supported me during my football career, especially Egypt fans,\" he wrote. In a career spanning 14 years, Mido joined Belgian club Gent from boyhood team Zamalek, in 2000. Soon after he spent two seasons with Dutch giants Ajax, before spells in La Liga, Ligue 1, Serie A and the Premier League. The goalscorer made his name at English club Tottenham, where he helped the club challenge for a top-four finish in the 2005-06 season, whilst on loan from Roma. After leaving White Hart Lane, he played for the likes of Middlesbrough, Wigan Athletic, West Ham United and Barnsley in England.
