Ten people were found dead in several locations in central Mexico city including a police chief, Mexican authorities said Tuesday.

Police Chief of the city of Celaya J. Santos Juarez Rocha and one of his bodyguards were found dead on the outskirts of the nearby city of Salamanca, ABC news quoted the federal attorney general's office as saying.

The office added that its Homicide Investigation Unit and Criminal Investigation Agency will analyze evidence to try to determine the offender.

In the nearby town of Abasolo, a couple and their two adult children were found dead in their home and a fifth body was outside the house, said Investigator for the Guanajuato state Prosecutor's Office Laura Edith Ortega.

Bodies of two teenagers were also found in separate spots in Abasolo, Laura said, adding that investigation is underway to determine whether the seven killings were connected.

The 10th homicide was reported in the city of Irapuato.
