The 10th session of the Assembly of Experts began here Tuesday morning presided by its Chairman Ayatollah Mohammad-Reza Mahdavi Kani. The 10th gathering of the assembly in its fourth term is being held at the previous venue of the Iranian Parliament, downtown Tehran. The Assembly of Experts is a deliberative body of 86 Islamic scholars and is constitutionally tasked with electing and supervising the activities of the Supreme Leader. Members of the assembly are elected by direct public vote for an eight-year term. Current laws require the assembly to meet for at least two days, twice a year. The current chairman of the Assembly is Ayatollah Kani, who was elected in March 2011. Ayatollah Kani and Intelligence Minister Heidar Moslehi will address the opening session of the event.
