At least 15 persons were killed and more than 70 injured when a passenger train slammed into the back of a stationary train in southern India on Tuesday night. Indian news agency (PTI) reported. Several passengers have been trapped inside two bogies which derailed following the collision, railway police said. According to preliminary reports, the accident occurred near the city of Chennai around 9:30pm (1600 GMT) when the passenger express hit another train standing at a signal point. The National TV channel cited railway officials as saying three carriages had derailed, and at least 100 passengers had been injured and taken to hospital. Police and railway officials have rushed to the spot to undertake rescue and relief operations.
