At least seven people, including four children, were killed and 27 others were injured Sunday after a passenger bus they were traveling in skidded off the road and fell into a gorge in Indian- controlled Kashmir, officials said. The accident took place Sunday morning at Nandni Mor, around 40 km south of Jammu, the winter capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir. \"Seven people were killed and 27 others are reported injured in a bus accident today,\" said a police official posted at Police Station Jajjar Kotli. \"The injured were immediately rushed to Government medical college Jammu hospital for treatment.\" According to officials, the ill-fated vehicle was on way from Anantnag to Jammu, when it fell into a deep gorge.No sooner the news about accident spread, locals and policemen rushed to the spot to carry out rescue work. The health officials pressed in ambulances to carry injured and dead to the hospital, officials said. Police said the cause of accident was not immediately known. Deadly road accidents are common in this mountainous region often caused by overloading, bad condition of roads and reckless driving. According to traffic department officials 1,080 people died in more than 6,129 road accidents across Indian-controlled Kashmir last year.
