At least eight people died Friday after a bus veered off a bridge in Ivory Coast and pluged into the lagoon below. Rescue workers pulled the bodies from the water beneath the Felix Houphouet-Boigny bridge, one of two bridges in Abidjan, the country's economic capital. Officials did not immediately release a death toll, but witnesses said the public bus was overcrowded. Road accidents are common in Abidjan due to poorly maintained vehicles and bad roads.
