Secretary General of the Arab League (AL) Ahmed Abul Gheit received a phone call from UN Special Envoy to Syria Staffan de Mistura during which they exchanged points of view pertaining to the latest developments of the Syrian crisis.
The UN official posted Abul Gheit on the developments of the seventh round of the Geneva Talks and the outcome of contacts carried out by him with different Syrian parties over the past period, AL spokesman Mahmoud Affifi said in a press release on Thursday.
Abul Gheit was keen on reiterating the pan-Arab body's firm stance towards the Syrian crisis, affirming the importance of reaching a settlement that fulfills the aspirations of the Syrian people.
He further stressed the need of posting the AL on the outcome of the contacts carried out by the UN special envoy, putting into consideration that the Syrian crisis is an Arab issue at the first place.
The AL role in the Syrian crisis is indispensable especially that there are intensified endeavors to reach a settlement to the crisis after years of conflict that left many victims behind.
During the phone call, the two sides agreed that the UN official will delegate his deputy Ramzy Ezzeldin Ramzy to Cairo during the coming phase to post the AL permanent representatives on the outcome of the UN official's contacts.
