At least 51 persons were killed in mudslides southeast of Bangladesh after three days of torrential rains and flash floods which led to the disruption of transportation networks. Chittagong governor Siraj Khan was quoted today as saying that the army has been deployed over the district's mountainous terrain in search-and-rescue operations amid fears of more fatalities. Khan added that at least 26 people were killed in landslides and floods in the outskirts of Chittagong provincial harbor and in Cox Bazaar region. In the neighborly district of Bandar, 35 cadavers were retrieved from location of mudslides, according to local police sources.
