Bulgarian police and customs officers have seized 42 kg heroin at the Danube Bridge checkpoint near Russe at the border with Romania, officials said on Sunday. According to the Ministry of Interior, the illicit drug split into 54 packages was found on Saturday afternoon inside the front fenders of an BMW vehicle. The owner of the vehicle, a 44-year-old Bulgarian from Karlovo, and his 19-year-old daughter, were arrested on the scene. Bulgaria, with 20,000 to 30,000 heroin users, is a transit country for the highly addictive drug. The country seized more than 300 kg of heroin in 2010.
