Hundreds of campers were forced to spend the night in a shopping mall after smoke from a nearby pinewood engulfed their camping site in Tuscany, dpa cited Italian media reports, on Saturday. A total of 1,100 tourists had to be evacuated from the Il Sole camping site. More than half of them were relocated to the shopping mall, while the rest spent the night in a beach resort near Marina di Grosseto. The fire, which destroyed about 40 hectares of pinewood, broke out on Saturday and had been put out by firefighters using Canadairs and helicopters by early Sunday. The blaze came amid scorching temperatures in Italy and much of Europe.
