Five people were killed and five others were seriously injured in 23 traffic accidents, which took place during Eid Al Fitr holiday in the UAE Capital.
Brigadier Mohammed Dahi Al Humairi, Director of Abu Dhabi Traffic Department at the Traffic and the Patrols Directorate in the Central Operations of Abu Dhabi Police, said the deadly accidents were mainly caused by sudden swerving, failure to stick to lanes, a vehicle hitting a pedestrian, jumping a red light and not leaving safe distance between vehicles.
He urged drivers to abide by the law of traffic, pointing out that among the traffic offenses that took place during the Eid Holiday included, jumping the red light, exceeded the maximum speed limit by more than 60 km an hour, not fasten seat belt, using a mobile phone while driving, sudden swerving and expiration of vehicle tires.
Brigadier Al Humairi said Abu Dhabi Police will continue to raise awareness on road safety, particularly via their social media channels.
