A Florida teenager said he stole an AK-47 assault rifle because he was pretty sure his mom would never buy him one, sheriff\'s detectives said. The 13-year-old was charged with grand theft of a firearm this week after the weapon and several rounds of ammunition were discovered under his bed. \"The suspect confessed to stealing the rifle, because he really liked it and knew that his mother would never buy him one,\" the Hernando County Sheriff\'s Office said in a written statement. \"He advised that he had no other intentions for the rifle and denied committing any other crimes.\" The South Florida Sun Sentinel said the boy apparently lifted the rifle from a home in Spring Hill where his mother worked as a housekeeper. She searched his room after the owner reported it missing. \"I would like to take this opportunity to remind homeowners, whether you have children or not, to please make sure your firearms are properly secured, especially when others will be entering your home,\" Sheriff Al Nienhuis said in the statement.
