A baby consumed fuel kept in a tumbler, while her parents sat drinking nearby unaware of a tragedy unfolding before them in the Indian steel city of Salem. The parents of the one-and-a-half year old girl are poor brick kiln labourers who did not realise that their child was drinking kerosene. The little girl probably mistook the relatively dark coloured liquid fuel to be tea. The tragedy occurred in the morning hours while the parents were consuming the beverage to ward off the winter chill. The child was rushed to a hospital when the parents realised that not all was well, but it was too late and she died in the hospital.
