A 34-year-old southeast California was believed to have been texting while crossing a street when he was struck and killed by a rig, officials said. Daniel Malloy of Pico Rivera was walking east across Lakewood Boulevard about 8 p.m. Tuesday when a Freightliner tractor-trailer turning right from Rosecrans Avenue hit him in Downey, the Los Angeles Times reported. Malloy was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Downey Police Sgt. Daniel Samano said the accident is under investigation. \"Doing anything distracting when you\'re walking in traffic is a not a safe thing to do,\" Samano said.
