An Indian man wanted by Abu Dhabi Police hanged himself to death after he was held at the Muscat International Airport while on transit from Tanzania to Chennai. T. N. Srinivasan, 54, detained at the Muscat International Airport last month, was taken to the police headquarters in Qurum area of Muscat, where he apparently hanged himself. The deceased reportedly had financial fraud cases against him in Abu Dhabi. \"There was an alert against him from Abu Dhabi Police so when he transited through Muscat airport he was detained,\" a source with the Royal Oman Police told Gulf News. According to reliable sources there were no signs of resistance but death was by hanging thus it was deemed as a suicide. According to sources, he died on April 26. \"We were informed about his death by the Indian embassy in Muscat only on May 5,\" S. Subbalaxmi, wife of the deceased, told Gulf News over phone from Chennai. \"Our wound is raw and we don\'t want to open it further by talking about his (Srinivasan) death and circumstances surrounding it,\" she said in a choking voice, adding that they had no information about how he died. She, however, confirmed that her husband had worked in Abu Dhabi. Informing her about the death, Sanjay Asthana, Attaché, Community Welfare at the Indian Embassy in Muscat, wrote in an email to Subbalaxmi: \"I am sorry to know about the demise of your husband Mr T N Srinivasan. Please accept our heartfelt condolences. As conveyed and confirmed to us over phone we are trying to facilitate the transportation of his mortal remains to Chennai.\" When contacted, the Indian mission had no information about the release of the remains of Srinivasan but a police source said that it would be handed over to the embassy on Thursday. \"As soon as we get the body, it would be sent to Chennai by the first flight available,\" a source at the embassy told Gulf News. The Indian mission is likely to get a detailed report about the circumstances of his arrest and subsequent death under detention. \"We hope to get correct information about how he died,\" his wife said.
