A 64-year-old German national was killed and five others injured after a lightning strike on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon in Arizona, officials said. By the time park rangers arrived on the scene, members of the vacationing party were performing CPR on the woman, who was later declared dead, KCSG-TV of St. George, Utah, reported. The incident happened about 1:45 p.m. Thursday near the Mohave viewing area at Grand Canyon National Park, the Northern Arizona News reported. Five members of the dead woman's party were injured and taken to the park's Emergency Operations Center, where they were treated. The dead woman's name wasn't immediately available, the report said. Weather officials said if the sound of thunder occurs within 30 seconds of a lightning flash, people should take cover.
