A Palestinian border guard was killed on Thursday while confronting an extremist element who was trying to infiltrate into Sinai.
The extremist blew himself up as he failed to sneak into Sinai.
The Palestinian guard died of his critical wounds on Thursday morning after being transported to the hospital, Palestinian medical sources said.
Meanwhile, spokesman for the Hamas-controlled Interior Ministry in Gaza Eyad al Bazm said in a brief statement that a security accident took place on Thursday morning along the southern borderline of the Gaza Strip east of the Rafah crossing with Egypt.
Security forces stopped two persons as they approached the borders.
One of the men blew himself up and was killed on the spot, while the other was injured, Al Bazm added.
A number of security personnel were injured, including one in a serious condition. The injured were moved to Abu Yousef al Najjar Hospital.
In a press statement, the family of the terrorist disowned their relative and his terror action and condemned such a brutal crime that contradicts with their beliefs and religion.
The family offered condolences to the Palestinian people, government, security bodies and the family of the dead guard, statement added.
