The driver who steered his car into a pizzeria east of Paris admitted that he was trying to commit suicide.
The 39-year-old attacker was driving a BMW and reported to have also had weapons in his car, BBC reported. 
France's Interior Ministry has described the man as apparently suicidal and said it does not believe his actions were linked to terrorism.
Earlier in the day, a car has "deliberately" ploughed into the restaurant, killing an 8-year-old girl and injuring at least five people.
