Police in south Russia's Dagestan region defused a powerful car bomb on Wednesday. Police said the explosive device, which was packed with nails and ball bearings and was equivalent to 100 kg of TNT, was placed in a Lada car outside a shopping mall in the town of Khasavyurt. Three people were killed by a car bomb that went off by a cafe in Khasavyurt in January. Dagestan, a volatile republic neighboring Chechnya, saw around 50 percent of all terrorist attacks in Russia last year.
