At least five policemen were martyred and several others wounded when unknown gunmen opened fire on a security checkpoint in Al Arish city, North Sinai, a security source said on Monday.
The injured were rushed to hospital,adding that the vicinity of the attack is being combed by sappers.
The martyrs include a police officer, a sergeant and three conscripts.
The police launched a manhunt to arrest the perpetrators, the source added.
