Six people died and three others were seriously injured after a rear-end collision Wednesday on a highway in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, said local authorities. The accident happened at 3:48 a.m. when a bus rammed into a coal-loaded truck that stalled on a section of the National Highway 216 in Fuyun County in Altay Prefecture, said a spokesman with the regional work safety bureau. The victims were on the bus, which carried 42 people and was heading for Altay from the regional capital of Urumqi, said the spokesman, adding that the injured were under treatment in two local hospitals. The identification of victims and the cause of the accident are under investigation.
