A suburban Chicago teenager was being held without bond, charged in the deaths of his parents, police said. John Granat, 17, of unincorporated Palos Township, Ill. was charged with two counts of first-degree murder Tuesday in the deaths of John and Maria Granat, whose bodies were found brutally beaten inside their bedroom, the Chicago Tribune reported. Prosecutors said police were called to the home Sunday morning by the teenager, who reported his parents had been killed. Police say Granat first told them that he had been sleeping in the basement all night and discovered the bodies in the morning. When investigators discovered Granat had been stopped for a broken tail-light at 5:17 a.m, the teen allegedly changed his story, saying he had fallen asleep in the car and didn't enter the house until 7:15 a.m. Several of the boy's friends told police Granat had made threats to kill his parents, the newspaper said. His friends allegedly described his relationship with his parents as "difficult." The father, John Granat, was a local building contractor, the report said.
