Turkish police on Friday detained 13 people suspected of being involved in activities for the outlawed Kurdish Workers\' Party (PKK) in Turkey\'s largest city Istanbul. Teams from the counter-terrorism unit of the Istanbul police department raided various houses in the city\'s Asian side and detained 13 people suspected of participating and planning illegal activities, the state-run Anatolia news agency reported. Documents belonging to the PKK were found during the raids. Listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States and the European Union, the PKK took up arms in 1984 to create an ethnic homeland in southeastern Turkey. More than 40,000 people have been killed in conflicts involving the PKK over the past two decades.
